Do You Or Someone You Know Desire Representation?

Journeyman Carpenter Application

Are you interested in the Carpenter or Millwright Apprenticeship Program?

Again, our representatives are all working people. We worked in the field before we worked to serve our members.

Maybe you or someone you know could benefit from our service. If you are performing the work of a Carpenter or Millwright now but are not happy with your situation, maybe we can help. Perhaps you are concerned about a spouse that is working in unsafe conditions. We can help by looking into the problem for them. Our representatives work throughout the state in all sectors of construction. Whether you or someone you know is working in the residential, commercial, or industrial market, we are interested in getting to know them and helping them achieve their full potential.

Don't be nervous about contacting us. Some people are skeptical or anxious about talking to a Union representative because they are afraid of losing their job. Did you know that it is illegal (National Labor Relations Act) for an employer to fire an employee for talking to a Union representative?

Tell us about yourself and your situation. If you would like to receive some information about our Union, we can send it to you by mail if you'd rather not receive a phone call. If you'd like to talk to a representative, just give us your phone number and let us know a good time to get in touch with you. Or, if you'd rather just get some information by email and remain anonymous at this time, we can help you that way too.

You see, we're not out to break up companies or get you fired. On the contrary, if you are a Carpenter or Millwright, we would like to feed your interest in our Union. It benefits us by having you and your fellow workers as members. Aren't you and your family worth the time it takes to get some information about better wages and safer conditions?

Please click here for information on how tocontact us. Even if you have a question about what your employer can and cannot do, we can probably help out. Between all the representatives in the state our experience in the labor movement is extensive. If you feel uncomfortable after talking to us, you need not continue your relationship with us. We're here to help workers.

Carpenter and Millwright Apprenticeship Information

An apprenticeship is a method of learning that allows the apprentice to learn while they work. Our apprentices receive the very best training we can provide in one of our training centers and also receive training on the job while earning a decent wage. If you are interested in the Millwright apprenticeship program, click here to find out more. For Carpentry, read on.

The WV Carpenter Apprenticeship program is a four year program that teaches the apprentices a "dirt to doorknobs" approach to their trade. We train in everything from site layout, concrete forms, framing, scaffolding, blueprints, welding, interior systems, finish work, and much more. Everything you would need to know to be a productive carpenter. What is great about an apprenticeship program is that it doesn't cost you anything. As long as you are selected to enter the program you receive training that is paid for by our membership. We don't even use tax payer money to fund our program. Our Apprenticeship program has graduated scores of workers. We're governed by the US Dept. of Labor/Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training so this is no joke...this program is the real deal.

APPRENTICESHIP APPLICATIONS

The West Virginia Carpenter Training Center will be accepting applications for apprenticeship.  In order to apply, all applicants must meet the following minimum requirements.

  • Must be at least 17 years of age (Birth Certificate)
  • Must provide a copy of their Diploma or GED
  • Must provide proof of residence in WV for at least three (3) months
  • Must be able to physically perform the work of the trade
  • Must have transportation to/from work
  • Must have a valid WV driver’s license

The WV Carpenter Training Center will not discriminate due to race, color, religion, national origin or sex and will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 30.

That's it! if you have all those items then you can apply to our apprenticeship program. When you apply for the apprenticeship you will allowed to take our standard entrance exam which is a basic math test. Study up on fractions and decimals! If you successfully pass the entrance test then you will be contacted for an interview. This interview is a standardized interview given to each applicant. You will be scored on your interview and that score will be added to your test score. We select apprentices according to their score, not who they know. Gone are the days when you had to know someone to gain acceptance. Just give us a call if you're interested.

Apprenticeship Entrance Exam
If you going to take the apprenticeship entrance exam, then take a moment to get aquainted with the material you will be tested on.
